Dream it - The Appenzell Days

Patrick has been a fan of Alpine hiking forever, he passed the bug to Cyrus an Stephen on a life-affirming 3 day hike around beautiful Appenzell, now an annual 3 pilgrimage for the boys, It’s where McWaMo was born.

After each epic hike they’d come down and celebrate in a charming Swiss-chalet Hotel, slurp ice-cold beer and devour Rosti and Bratwurst with onion sauce (devour is an understatement) and daydream of owning a similar hotel so they could return more often to the Swiss Alps.

One balmy night, after a bottle of Appenzeller, they googled ‘hotels for sale in Switzerland’ and Hotel Oberland popped up. So they bought it, in February 2020, one month before the great pandemic struck (but thats another story)

Who is ‘McWaMo’

McWaMo is our Swiss company formed in February 2020 to buy Hotel Oberland. We like the name :)

The 3 Directors are:

Mc - Stephen McPhilemy (Ireland)

Wa - Patrick Wade (USA)

Mo - Cyrus Mojibi (USA)

AG - Is basically the German for ‘Ltd.’ or ‘Inc.’

Stephen runs operations on a daily basis in the Swiss Alps, with his wife Rubia (Brazil) and Patrick & Cyrus help with decisions thousands of miles away in California via the joys of zoom and other technology. Now that pandemic travel restrictions are easing they hope to spend way more time in lovely Lauterbrunnen.

The Swiss Bliss

It is a sacred principle of ‘McWaMo’ that once per year we put a week aside to welcome our Friends & Family, and host them and celebrate them and introduce them to the joys of Hotel Oberland and Lauterbrunnen.

Once per year, we have an open invite for everyone to come and enjoy our hospitality. They can pay if they want, and no worries if they don’t. It’s about the hospitality and making priceless memories with our friends & family.

Patrick and Stephen started this tradition with the annual “Dingle Dangle” at Milltown House, their award-winning boutique hotel in Ireland, its the most fun week of the year.

2021 Swiss Bliss was an amazing success, and even included Bruno jumping off a cliff (an event we have decided to omit from the 2022 itinerary!). Heres to an even more fun 2022 Swiss Bliss. Prost!
